Stephen, un ex direttore d'orchestra di Broadway, decide di tentare la via forense che aveva abbandoanto e accetta di difendere un gruppo di ex ballerini ormai in pensione che sono stati cacciati dalla casa di riposo dove risiedevano. Il responsabile di tutto questo è il gangster Phil Ferranti che vuole utilizzare per i suoi loschi affari il terreno su cui è costruito l'ospizio Riuscirà Stephen a spuntarla?
